“The Glass Castle” is a textile based sculptural piece made to explore the idea of order and chaos inspired by

the memoir of the same name by Jeanette Walls.

To encapsulate the theme of order and chaos, this dome-like form is an interpretation of the “glass castle”.

Within this sculpture, embroidered butterflies are hung as a representation of the Walls family with the purple

butterfly being that of Jeanette Walls herself. Therefore, viewers are to look through this webbed “bubble”

that the Walls family lived in to convey the idea that they lived a life of chaos. However, as the Walls family

looking out into the world from within the “bubble”, they saw the world as chaos.
